As winter is fast approaching, our cuddly friends need some handknit sweaters too! This cute dog sweater, knit all in one piece, is the perfect accessory for a dog (or cat!)
About the Cable Doggo Sweater
I’ve knit many sweaters for my two-year-old morkie Arya, but many of them didn’t fit just right. So I decided to design my own that would fit her just right — and the Cable Doggo Sweater was born. This sweater is knit all in one piece (perfect if you hate seaming — especially small pieces! It also has some short-row shaping at the bottom so it’s longer along your dogs backside and shorter in the front.
About the Yarn
When choosing the yarn for sweater, I knew I wanted something that I could throw in the washing machine — so I went with O-Wool’s O-Wash Sport. I love all of the yarns that are part of the O-Wool family (I’ve knit hats and sweaters!) and I love that they use a GOTS certified organic compound to create washability instead of a traditional superwash method.
You can use any sport or DK weight yarn for this project and it’s perfect for scraps! Many of my test knitters used yarn from their stash for this project.
Sizing Details
Picking a dog sweater size can be a little bit funky, so I recommend picking a size based on your furry friend’s chest size vs. their weight. Dogs (and cats!) come in a different shapes and sizes — so you may need to make adjustments as you go, but I’ve included some helpful notes along the way in the pattern.
Find the notes and sizing information in this PDF.
